Rules and Regulations

  • Sharan is a home for senior citizens and not a hospital. Only individuals of the age of 60 and above, who are in good health and mobile, are eligible for admission. Residents are not permitted an attendant. If the resident becomes bedridden during their stay at the home or when he/she returns from hospital after being treated for an illness, he/she will not be permitted to stay at the home. However, if a doctor specialising in the field that has rendered the senior citizen immobile is of the opinion that the senior citizen will be rendered mobile within three months of examination and will be able to have meals at the dining room and use the toilets without assistance, the senior citizen may continue to reside at the home. If, after a period of three months, the senior citizen is discharged from the home, he/she will clear all the dues or the same will be adjusted against the security deposit, and the balance reimbursed to the senior citizen. During the three months when the senior citizen is immobile, he/she will be permitted an attendant. Upon attaining mobility, he/she will discharge the attendant. Hence, when a senior citizen becomes immobile, the administrator shall inform the trustee and the notified persons about the same, and the trust will call for a medical examination of the senior citizen, as stated above.
  • Any retired individual, above the age of 60, is eligible for admission. The decision of the Admission Committee shall be final and binding, and no reason may be attributed for refusal.
  • The management reserves the right to terminate the stay of a resident, without assigning any reason.
  • Before admission, every applicant must undergo medical examination at any of the approved clinics in Mumbai. Applicants must not be suffering from a contagious disease, infections or mental disease. Admission will be granted only after obtaining fitness certificate from the medical officer of Sharan. For temporary /trial stay, fitness certificate can be obtained from any of the MBBS doctor, and at the absolute discretion of the Admissions Committee.
  • At the time of admission, every resident must pay an interest-free deposit, which is the equivalent of four months’ monthly charges. The same may be refunded after the adjustment of dues, if any.
  • Every resident must pay their dues regularly and promptly on or before the 5th of every month.
  • Two close relatives of the resident – with the approval of the Admissions Committee – will be required to sign a letter of undertaking in the prescribed format at the time of admission to the home. These relatives will be deemed notified persons, and will be in communication with the manager of Sharan at least once every two months, to enquire about the wellbeing of the resident.
  • The resident must bring their own personal effects, including toiletries, clothes, woollen clothes and other articles as per their personal requirements.
  • The residents will be served morning tea/coffee, breakfast with tea /coffee, lunch, afternoon tea/coffee with snacks, dinner and cup of milk at night. Only vegetarian food is cooked at the home.
  • All residents will be served the same food in the dining hall, and no special preferences will be accommodated in the preparation of this food.
  • Residents are prohibited from bringing into and consuming within the home, any form of alcoholic beverage and drugs. They are also prohibited from cooking, washing clothes and utensils, smoking and consuming tobacco within the premises.
  • Residents will keep their room and the surrounding area neat and clean.
  • Residents must take into consideration the comfort of other residents when playing the television, radio or music system, and maintain a low volume.
  • Residents shall abide by the rules and regulations instated by the home. If, owing to any breach of these rules, the Executive Committee arrives at the decision that the resident is unfit to stay at the home, the resident will vacate the home peacefully and will clear their dues. The deposit owed to the resident will be adjusted against any outstanding dues and the balance will be refunded.
  • Residents are required to seek the permission of the management before leaving the home. The management must also be informed of their return, which should be no later than 7 pm. No resident may stay away from the home, except with the prior permission of the management. The resident shall deposit the keys of the room with the management before leaving the home, even if it is only for a short duration. No refunds of the monthly charges will be issued to residents seeking to go out of the home or stay away from the home, and residents shall make these departures at their own risk.

  • In case of sickness or a medical emergency, the management – on the advice of Sharan’s doctor – will admit the resident to a hospital at the resident’s risk and cost. The home will not bear any expenses for the same. The notified persons will be informed about these developments by the management, and are responsible for caring for the resident thereafter. The death of any resident will be intimated to the respective notified persons by telephone, fax or email.
  • Visitors will be permitted only during specific visiting hours, by prior intimation or permission.
  • The Executive Committee reserves the right to change, alter, modify, omit or amend the Rules and Regulations without prior notice, and the same will be final and binding on the residents and the notified persons.
